Sue Palmer and Simon Lee Dicker explore the art of place making in Langport, Somerset, UK, with a focus on the public and civic spaces in the town. Both Simon and Sue are Somerset-based contemporary public artists who have been invited by Somerset Art Works to make some process based work in Langport that invites the residents of the town to engage with ideas about how public spaces could be more creatively used, and ‘owned’ by the community.

Spaces into Places
Through our own observations and conversations with local residents, community group leaders, members of the Town and District councils, shop keepers, groups of young people ...... (the list goes on), we have started to identify public spaces around the centre of Langport that could benefit from a bit of creative TLC.
Any ideas are actively encouraged so please join us on the 2nd of October or keep an eye on this blog for opportunities to get involved.

Event Saturday 2nd October
On Saturday October the 2nd the artists are taking up temporary residence on Cocklemoor making an engaging sited artwork exploring play and gardening which invites questions about our public spaces – what makes a house a home, some land a garden, and a field a playground? How might we respond to public spaces creatively, using some of the ways that we make our own homes and gardens?
Look out for the Number 71 SAW ‘art signs’ around the town that will be indicating all sorts of things that are artful, arty, artistic or places full of the potential for future creativity.
